STACEY
Most drone pilots learn to fly a drone. Owen Stacey learned to fly everything else first.
With over 27 years of aviation experience — flying jets, floatplanes, and private aircraft all over the world — Owen came to drone photography the way only a true aviator can. When you have spent decades reading the sky, understanding airspace, and feeling the wind before it shifts, operating a drone is not a skill you learn. It is an instinct.
Long before drones existed, Owen was already obsessed with capturing the world from above — first through the cockpit window, then through the lens of a camera. For 40+ years he has been a passionate photographer and filmmaker — starting with action cameras long before the term existed, and for the last decade, drones became the natural bridge between both worlds.
That breadth of experience shows in every shoot. Owen has chased speed boats and race cars at full throttle, directed music videos, worked real estate listings across Greater Victoria, and captured moments that most cameras and most operators simply cannot reach. Five years in real estate sales gave him a sharp understanding of what sells a property: light, angle, story, and timing.
"I enjoy flying drones almost as much as I enjoy flying jets." Almost. But the footage? That is where the real magic happens. Owen sees angles others do not — because he has spent a lifetime looking at the world from places most people never go.

Most recently served as Chief Pilot for a private jet company on the West Coast of Canada, flying corporate and private clients around the world. Responsible for flight operations, safety management, crew standards, and regulatory compliance.

For over 20 years Owen has served as a Training Captain and Check A & B Pilot, responsible for evaluating, certifying, and mentoring professional pilots to the highest aviation standards. This level of responsibility demands absolute precision, disciplined judgment, and an unwavering commitment to safety — qualities that carry directly into every drone operation and media production he leads.

Aviation Simulator Instructor
As a qualified Aviation Simulator Instructor, Owen has trained professional pilots in full-motion flight simulators — the most demanding and technically precise training environment in aviation. This role requires mastery of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and human performance under pressure. The same analytical mindset and technical precision applied in the simulator carries directly into how Owen plans, executes, and delivers every aerial shoot.
Multi-Aircraft Type Rated Pilot
Extensive experience across multiple aircraft types including private jets, turboprops, Dash 8s, and floatplanes. Has flown aircraft and operated drones across multiple countries and continents — bringing a truly global perspective to every shoot.
Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)
Owen holds a valid Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) — the highest level of pilot certification available. The ATPL is required to act as Pilot-in-Command of large commercial aircraft and represents the pinnacle of professional aviation achievement. Combined with his drone examiner license and 3,000+ flight hours, Owen operates at a level of regulatory knowledge and airspace mastery that no standard drone operator can match.
40+ Years Behind the Camera
A lifelong passion for photography and video that began long before drones existed. From early action cameras to the latest 4K drone systems, Owen has spent over four decades developing an instinctive eye for composition, light, and storytelling that formal training simply cannot replicate.
TC Certified Pilot & Licensed Examiner
